Mac gives away $20,000 in gas to the local community!
Fairbanks and Palmer, AK — With gas prices soaring, the leadership team at MAC Federal Credit Union aimed to pitch in for the community by organizing a completely free gas giveaway. Each vehicle received up to $50 in gas, with MAC giving away a total of $20,000 worth of fuel ($10,000 in Fairbanks and $10,000 in Palmer).
This is the third time MAC FCU has hosted a gas giveaway, but the first time to do so in the Mat-Su Valley. Being part of a credit union means being part of the community, and MAC takes that to heart by supporting local events and charities year-round. With a new Palmer location coming soon, the credit union wanted to introduce itself as community-focused.
Over 400 people had their tanks filled with chief officers and branch managers pumping for them. President and CEO of the company Angela Head said they saw a meaningful way to give back to the community with the current high price for gasoline.
“We try to look around to find out what the needs in the community are,” Head said. “So we got together and decided you know what? Let’s go and do a gas giveaway and give everybody 50 bucks, and maybe just have them have the opportunity for that week to not have to decide if they’re going to buy groceries or they’re going to buy gas.”
